postheadericon 1918 Draft Registration – Onkel Gustav

Franz was registered automatically for the draft on his eighteenth birthday which was March 7.    This is a BIG change from when I registered for the draft in 1968 where I had to personally go to the draft board and sign up.     Things were vastly different in 1918 during WWI which saw 23 million men having to sign up for a nationwide draft that really never fully materialized because the war was near the end.

Here is an example of the Third Draft Registration of 1918 with Onkel Gustav”s card.   Notice how simple the requirements were for eligibility.

Physical requirements:  TALL, MEDIUM build

I read this entry and I got a little confused as to which Franz you were talking about. As in my brother Franz or another relative Franz? Because Franz’s birthday is March 7, not March 14.

You are right !! I mixed up the twins’ birthdays with Kristin’s. Must be old age !

    I corrected the post.
