Adalbert Krampen, 87, Lewiston Idaho

Adalbert Krampen died Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston. He was 87.

He was born May 15, 1921, at Stettin, Germany, to Felix and Bertha Wagner Krampen.   He graduated from the Berlin Pyrotechnical Institute in 1943 and served in the German military as an ordnance officer.

Adalbert and Christel Auguste Aul were married Dec. 23, 1940.   They moved to the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley in 1963, where he began his career at CCI Speer (now ATK).   During his career there he instituted an apprentice program and developed the company”s stud driver business.   He also held the U.S. patent on unleaded primer mixture.   Adalbert was instrumental in CCI becoming the second-largest employer in the valley.   He retired as vice president of manufacturing in 1986.

After his retirement he and Christel bought a place on Lake Coeur d’Alene, where they enjoyed fishing and the outdoors.   They took several cruises, exploring North and South America.   They also visited Europe often to see their children.

Adalbert was a member of the Calam Temple and received a master’s degree from Columbia University.

He is survived by his son Hasso Krampen of Geneva, Switzerland; daughter Heide Krampen of Raubach, Germany; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Royal Plaza in Lewiston under the direction of Mark Newman of Royal Plaza.

Malcom’s Brower-Wann Funeral Home of Lewiston is in charge of arrangements.
