postheadericon Disaster at Work Yesterday

Yesterday I took Erik and Dakota to work with me. While I was working on various systems in different parts of the yard my kids were busily destroying the surroundings.   I didn’t realize what was happening because they were out of sight.   Only once or twice did I have to calm them down when they were playing on some office chairs. Usually I bring one of my kids at a time to get them out of each other’s hair at home.   But this time I took two.

Mistake. They broke some lights, made a mess of the break area and to top it off they messed up the sewer system when they played in the dried mud, slinging at each other.   The septic tank contractor was called to fix the problem.    I thought something was amiss when we left yesterday to go home.   This topic was the talk of work all day.    I had to clean up all the mess that was made.    It could have been a worse disaster – We have a temporary portable latrine system outside that the kids decided to experiment with.   They opened a sewer line but it wouldn’t give all the way so luckily no CRAP got all over the yard outside. I don”t know why this happened.   I guess I can”t take these two anywhere anymore.

When they get together they act like Hans und Fritz – the Katzenjammer Kids!

postheadericon At Work

I settled on a common theme for this webblog and my journal. Next I need to add a calendar and more options. I brought Dakota and Erik to work with me today. That turned out to be a mistake. My next entry will explain why!

postheadericon Busy Weekend ahead

This is supposed to be TGIF !    But I’ll be pretty busy this weekend with …. what else ? ….. WORK.

I don’t seem to have enough hours in a day or week to do anything.

One of the drawbacks from living so far from work is the amount of time devoted to commuting. I live 39.3 miles from work and it takes just under an hour to get home and right at an hour to get there. And that”s IF the bridge in Larose isn’t up! So add those two hours to my daily work hours and it figures out to around twelve hours per day GONE. The only part of the commute I really enjoy is where I bring my twins, Franz and Franziska to school in the morning. That experience deserves another post and I”ll definitely keep it in mind so look for it in the future

postheadericon Evening begins and TV is on

It”s almost 8 PM and the night is beginning.    As usual I’m pretty tired from work and the trip home, which takes about an hour.    Everyone here is watching TV.    Franziska was reminded to do the clothes (her only big chore).     Erika was playing games on the internet.    I told her about this site and she viewed it.     She didn’t seem to be too enthralled about it.     The boys are in the library playing games on the big TV.

Widescreen

Click on the image at left and you’ll go to a website to see the difference between regular TV and widescreen TV. Getting the TV was Gayle”s idea. I like it. We”re working on the library and should have it finished in a week or so of free time. Free time?! What’s that?

On the way home I got a call from Barry on my cell phone.    He’s been a friend for a good number of years, I’d say 18 years at least, since we lived in Des Allemands in Dufrene’s Trailer Park.   Anyway, I have a computer that he wants me to upgrade for his girl friend’s brother.    Man, it takes time, especially when you have to start from scratch. The computer has a hardware issue with Windows XP.   I suspect  just a surplus network card that should solve that problem.   Now maybe I can get that resolved.

postheadericon Franz Phoned

Franz calls just about everyday here at work. I really enjoy speaking to him. Funny how you see or conceive things differently over the phone. Today he asked me if Miles could come over and spend the night. I told him not tonight but we’ll have to talk about it for this weekend.

Over the phone I don’t like giving such permissions because I don’t know what’s been happening at home while I was away. I keep telling the kids to ask their mom for permissions because she is THERE and usually knows FIRSThand what’s been happening. Too often I’ve okayed certain things only to find out that one of the kids got into trouble or didn’t do this or that chore and therefore doesn’t deserve the permission. Is that typical in all families?

postheadericon FTP errors – my fault

I plog along during lunch at work or late at night with this blog. Well this is the third day of my blog. I am learning a lot, with a lot of mistakes and some neat finds. I made some un-intentional errors due to my FTP settings. I must have accidently hit the ASCII transfer switch and a few of my files got corrupted. I realized something was wrong when I downloaded some graphics and they became unreadable.

The software I”m using for FTP is FTPVoyager by RhinoSoft. It has plenty of power and is very easy to use. I”m using an earlier version that I bought three years ago.

The Software I’m using for this Web Blog:

Word Press

This is the first day that this Blog is on the air. I have adapted a theme called “Complicated” using the blogging software WordPress. This is going to be my main theme since I will tweak it until it has a lot of bells and whistles. Occasionally you might see another theme in the future. But this will be my default theme As you can see, it is actually very simple on the outside. There will be more graphics and interesting stuff and intriguing topics in the future, I hope ! Right now I’ve only the one GIF by the menu, a German flag stylized into a map of present day Germany.
